My experience at Fort Worth TX Social Security Office – Marion

Your Name (Can Be Anonymous): Marion Donaldson
Your Experience: Went for death benefit after husband died. Agent tried to get me to wait until I was eligible myself and not take his benefit. I told her I had to have it for bills now! When it didn’t receive it in two months, I called the local office. I called several times a day for weeks. Never was answered!! I called and e-mailed the National SS Office. Finally spoke with someone who told me I had to go back to the local office to fix the problem. I called many times each day for weeks to set appointment so I wouldn’t have to wait so long. No answer!!!!  I went there and after two hours met with the same lady. She said she was sorry she made a mistake. I ended up waiting five months for check. Last month I got a letter stating I could make more money each month if I signed up for my own benefits instead of husband’s deceased benefit. It gave a number to call. I called that number. I asked a few questions and the lady just kept saying she couldn’t answer my questions. I told her the letter I was holding gave this number to call if I had questions. She told me to stop talking and she would try to explain. She was very rude and disrespectful. She couldn’t answer one of my questions. She told me to go to my local office. She said to call and make an appointment with them. I told her I tried for months two years ago and they phone was never answered one single time. She said she would call and schedule appointment. She was gone for a long time. She came back and said they didn’t answer the phone. She told me she was scheduling a phone appointment for me on June 30 at 9:30. She said they would call me in ten minutes to confirm. They never called. On June 30 I left work and waiting for twenty minutes and they did not call. They called and left a message at 9:54 but I had given up and gone back to work.  HORRIBLE service!  I am taking off work to go to the local office tomorrow. It says on line they open at 9:00 am.  I will be there at 8:00.

  1. In general, you are first eligible to sign up for Medicare Part A and Part B starting 3 months before you turn 65 and ending 3 months after you turn 65. Your state will automatically sign you up for Medicare (or if you need to sign up). Your Medicaid coverage will change after you’re eligible for Medicare.
